As part of the HRN Annual Thematic Event 2023, the ARC Hub is collaborating with Peace Direct to offer a 3 hours training on decolonizing aid and building an antiracist perspective in the sector!
Description: An incredibly important aspect of how we co-exist as nations is how we show up in times of crisis. However, what can’t be ignored is the complexities and histories of the who, how, when, and why countries show up and the effects that it has on local communities. Together with Peace Direct, we will draw on the work they’ve done to practically explore decolonization and transformation of the humanitarian, peacebuilding and development sector as a path to improved development outcomes. From ground setting to action, we will spend the first half of the session doing some scene-setting work to understand the concepts, principles and practices of decolonizing our work. With a presentation from Peace Direct, we will explore how to think through and act on these issues in a practical way. The second half of the session will be spent navigating through some scenario-based activities and open discussion time so that we can put the learning into action. All in all, we hope this will be an engaging space for coming together and envisioning a better future.
